? What is a Microschool?
A microschool is where small groups of students and there are mixed-age level groupings. While micro schools can vary in many ways, one thing they have in common is their size. Micro schools, as you might expect, are small and have an intimate learning environment. Micro-schooling is seen as being in between homeschooling and private schooling.
The push toward smaller, less institutionalized learning environments may also be a boost for the burgeoning microschool movement. Microschools usually operate out of homes or local community organizations and typically have no more than a dozen K-12 students, of varying ages.
Often microschools operate as hybrid homeschool programs, where young people are registered as homeschoolers but attend a micro-school either full- or part-time, taking classes and engaging with teachers and mentors.
What are the Benefits of Micro Schools during Covid?
Micro-schooling gives parents the opportunity to have more control over their children’s education. Micro-schools enhance opportunities for students, either individually or with siblings or with children in multiple-family isolation pods, to check in with their teachers.
They can also customize learning to the child or children. Micro-schools are also more “nimble, flexible, and operationally less complex” than traditional schools.
